I just spent an intense week full of doodling, drawing, portraying and listening to scientific talks at the Goldschmidt Conference in Prague, where I was invited to be their 1st Artist-in-Residence. Artist Residency in Prague!

As you are reading these lines, I am readying myself and packing my things to leave for Prague. I have been invited to participate in the Goldschmidt Conference to be their first artist in residence! What does it consist of? Well, I will be spending a whole week in a beautiful Central European capital mingling with geochemists — a very special breed of geologists — and also: I simply get to spend a few days drawing, drawing and … drawing! I will be going to talks, sketching and portraying the people I meet there, presenting some of my artwork related to geological fieldtrips and most probably enjoying the view. I also intend to continue my series of cover illustrations of famous scientific journals posted here a couple months back, for which I will certainly find new inspiration in Prague among the 4000+ participants…

I will be publishing “A Doodle A Day. The Graphic Proceedings of the Goldschmidt Conference” on the conference’s blog (http://blog.eag.eu.com/goldschmidt2015/) everyday. Go have a look at it during the week if you’re intrigued!

If you scroll down a bit you will see a few sketches I made in Prague’s old town during my last stay back in 2011. I remember being enthralled by the caryatids and atlantes carrying all the weight of the Czech neo-Baroque architecture on their stone shoulders. I am looking forward to discovering some more…

Au moment où vous lisez ces lignes, je rassemble mes effets et m’apprête à partir pour Prague. J’ai été invitée à participer à la Goldschmidt Conference afin d’y être leur première artiste en résidence ! Alors en quoi cela consiste-t-il ? Eh bien, cela signifie que je vais passer une semaine entière à me mêler à une foule de géochimistes — une espèce très intéressante de géologues — et aussi à dessiner, dessiner et surtout : dessiner ! Je compte aller à des exposés, faire des esquisses et des portraits des gens que j’y rencontre, présenter mon travail graphique en lien avec des missions de terrain géologiques auxquelles j’ai participées et très probablement … profiter de la vue. J’ai aussi l’intention de continuer ma série de unes de journaux scientifiques célèbres que j’avais postée ici il y a quelques mois et pour laquelle je vais certainement trouver quelque inspiration parmi les 4000 participants…

Je publierai tous les jours mes dessins sur le blog de la conférence (http://blog.eag.eu.com/goldschmidt2015/) et les réseaux sociaux, n’hésitez pas à y jeter un oeil dans le courant de la semaine prochaine !

Please note that our talk & installation “Geological Archives from the Arctic: How Rocks Record Environmental Conditions of the Early Earth” has been set at an earlier time-slot together with Sabine Hänsgen’s presentation and will take place on Thursday 19th at 4.30pm and not at 7pm as was first planned. The online program of the conference has been updated. (reload the page once if you still get the old program)

The conference takes place in the HU Auditorium at Grimm-Zentrum University Library, Geschwister-Scholl-Str. 1-3, 10117 Berlin-Mitte. If you are coming by public transportation, the nearest underground & tram station is Friedrichstr.

Veuillez noter que notre présentation & installation “Archives géologiques de l’Arctique : enregistrement des conditions environnementales à la surface de la jeune Terre” a été avancée et aura lieu jeudi 19 à 16h30 (et non à 19h) dans une session avec Sabine Hänsgen. La conférence a lieu dans l’Auditorium de la bibliothèque universitaire “Grimm-Zentrum”, Geschwister-Scholl-Str. 1-3, 10117 Berlin-Mitte. Si vous venez en transports en commun, la station la plus proche est Friedrichstr.

Archives of the Arctic / Sept 19, 2013 / HU Berlin

Phenocristaux-Nulliak-600dpi-contrast_SMALL I will be giving a talk with geochemist & field geologist Emilie Thomassot at the Berlin Conference “Archives of the Arctic” at Humboldt-University next week—on Thurs., September 19 at 7pm. (click here to see how to get there). We will be speaking about our joint endeavor of an expedition to Northern Labrador, Canada, in the summer of 2012, giving an overview on the research—geological & artistic—and field work conducted there.

I will be showing excerpts from my travel journal—drawings of people & stones, fauna & flora encountered on our journey.

Je participe la semaine prochaine au colloque “Archives de l’Arctique” à l’université Humboldt de Berlin, où la géochimiste et géologue de terrain Emilie Thomassot et moi-même proposons une communication –en anglais- à propos de notre expédition au Labrador septentrional (Canada) en 2012 et des résultats de nos recherches pluridisciplinaires, le jeudi 19 septembre à 19h. (Comment s’y rendre)

Je montrerai des extraits de mon carnet de voyage, des dessins de gens et de cailloux, de faune et de flore rencontrés lors du périple.

Proceedings of the Media and Memoria Workshop #01

Du 8 au 13 mai, j’ai participé à une conférence intitulée “Media and Memoria. Europe and the Balkans” rassemblant des chercheurs – en littérature, histoire de l’art… – des états ex-yougoslaves (Slovénie, Croatie, Bosnie, Serbie, Macédoine), d’Allemagne et de Suisse.

Ici, Jurij Murašov, de l’université de Constance, a donné une intervention qui abordait le Vegeta (sorte de bouillon de légumes yougo servi à toutes les sauces) comme >le< condiment yougoslave par excellence, sorte de symbole de l’unité du super-état Yougoslavie.

J’ai profité de cet environnement studieux pour croquer tout le monde – avec ou sans Vegeta. Je publierai donc dans les jours qui viennent une sélection de ces instantanés.
